Biosketch
Dr. Polatajko received her BOT (Bachelor of Occupational Therapy) from McGill University, Montreal, Quebec, Canada, and her MEd and PhD from the University of Toronto, Toronto, Canada.
Dr. Polatajko is an internationally respected researcher, educator and clinician. She has over 200 publications, and over $9,000,000 in research funds. She has done over 450 presentations in 21 countries and has won many national and international awards. Most significant among these Dr. Polatajko was awarded the Muriel Driver Lectureship in 1992 from CAOT, inducted into the Academy of Research of the AOTF in 1996, named a Fellow of the CAOT in 2002 and named a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences in 2009. She has been a guest editor for the Journal of Occupational Science, the Canadian Journal of Occupational Therapy, the journal Human Movement Science, is co-editor of the ‘Sense of Doing’ column in OTNow, past-editor of the journal OTJR: Occupation, Participation & Health and now Editor-in-Chief of CJOT.
Her research interests are focused on occupation and its enablement. Her specific emphasis on the enablement of children with Developmental Coordination Disorder has led to the development of a new approach to enhancing performance, the Cognitive Orientation to daily Occupational Performance (CO-OP), a cognitive-based treatment approach that enables clients with performance problems to reach their occupational goals. CO-OP http://www.ot.utoronto.ca/coop/ has been accepted world-wide, as has the Canadian Occupational Performance Measure COPM), and Enabling Occupation: An Occupational Therapy Perspective published by the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT), on both of which Dr. Polatajko is a co-author. Her latest publication, "Enabling Occupation II: Advancing an Occupational Therapy Vision for Health, Well-being & Justice through Occupation", on which she is a primary co-author, is also receiving international acclaim.
