Biosketch

Dr. Denise Reid is a professor in the Department of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy and the Graduate Department of Rehabilitation Science, the Institute of Medical Science and the Institute of Biomaterials and Biomedical Engineering at the University of Toronto. She has been on faculty at the University of Toronto since 1983. Since that time she has taught numerous courses in the areas of Pediatrics, Neurology, and Assistive Technology and has supervised the research of numerous graduate students and undergraduate students. She has over 100 research and clinical publications. Her current research interests include the development of an online mindfulness program. She and her graduate students are pilot testing the program with occupational science students first, prior to evaluating the program with students from other disciplines. She has completed research about mindfulness in occupational therapy practice, and in occupational presence and engagement. She is the director of the Virtual Reality and Rehabilitation Lab where she uses the IREX Gesture Xtreme ™software for studies in virtual reality in rehabilitation with disabled children and adults. She and her research assistants also program new virtual reality applications such as Virtual City using Flash™ for rehabilitation studies.
