Biography
Babak Taati joined IATSL in March 2009 and is currently involved with multiple projects related to computer vision, machine learning, and robotics. Prior to joining IATSL, Babak worked as Lead Computer Vision Scientist at Feeling Software (Montreal, Quebec) and on his Ph.D. thesis in the Robotics and Computer Vision Laboratory at Queen’s University (Kingston, Ontario). During his Ph.D. studies he also worked at MDA Space Missions (Brampton, Ontario) working in the computer vision R&D group on 3D vision systems such as real-time satellite tracking in range data.
Babak's primary role at IATSL is on research and development in applying computer vision, signal processing, and machine learning techniques in intelligent assistive and rehabilitation technologies for older adults, particularly those with physical or cognitive impairments. He also works in system engineering to build working prototypes of rehabilitation devices and assistive technology systems. He is currently involved with the Fall Detection, Video Analysis for Usability Assessment, RERC on Universal Design, Sensory Conflict, Bone Marrow Transplant Survival Status, and COACH projects.
